  • What do these three have in common : Rothko, Rothschild, Rockefeller? well they are surnames that belong to major players in the world of art. The first is that of abstract expressionist painter Mark. Mark Rothko's work falls under modern art. His work is notorious for fetching ridiculous price tags during auctions. One of the world's greatest most valuable private art collection is in the confines of the Rothschild family. It took three generations for the Rothschild Jewish dynasty to amass such a collection. The collection is housed with the part of the family which resides in Vienna. Now here's were the Rockefellers fit in into the bigger picture ( or should I say painting ). John Davidson Rockefeller Junior gave $5 million to his wife Abby to help her set up the Museum Of Modern Art shortly known as the MOMA. The family also donated all its property to the museum.

  • Adolf Hitler the man behind the Jewish Holocaust failed an entry exam for a fine arts course at an Austrian university and was thus never admitted.

  • Art movements that stand out :Cubism ; this movement immediately springs into mind Pablo Picasso. Pablo is inextricably linked with this movement.Cubism is based upon the geometrical technique of drawing. Its emphasis is on the mind's perception of an object. Cubism is not concerned with actual representation of an object.

Surrealism ; this is the brainchild of the French began in 1924 by Andre Breton. Surrealism came from Dada. It drew its inspiration from the psychological discoveries made by Sigmund Freud. The unconscious realm of the psyche constitutes the movement's significance. Its aim is to reveal and display the workings of the subconscious mind.

  • Awe inspiring artists : Paul Gauguin ; friend to Dutch painter Vincent Van Gore. He gave up his well paying job as a stockbroker to take up painting on a full time basis. During his change of careers Paul lost his family in the process.His entire life from that point on was given to traveling. Gauguin was in search of what he termed the "natural life". In the island of Marquesas is where he died. This is what the Islands' bishop had to say upon his death -' the only noteworthy event here has been the sudden death of a contemptible  individual named Gauguin, a reputed artist but an enemy of God and everything decent'

Pierre Auguste Renoir ; at the age of 71 Renoir chose to paint rather than walk.The French impressionist painter suffered from rheumatoid arthritis which forced him unto a wheelchair. A physician prescribed a diet that would give him sufficient energy  to begin the process of attempting to walk again. After taking a few walking exercises he decided to quit the entire routine all together. The routine he said took away all his will-power of which none would be left for painting. From that  moment on Renoir permanently resigned himself to the wheelchair.

  • Internationally recognized auctioneers : Sothebys ; a British corporation. Had global sales in 2011 of $5 billion.This auction firm was  established in 1744.Its the 4th oldest auction house in the world. Christies ; founded in 1766 by James Christie.In 2015 it had record sales of $7.4 billion.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         
  • Art collection : Dmitry Rybolovlev ; the most recent stupefying exorbitant art collection belongs to Russian tycoon Dmitry. It is estimated to be worth $2 billion. Dmitry's collection   includes a Rothko, a Van Gore and Gustav Klimt's water serpents ii.

  • Reputable art galleries : Louvre ; the French art museum has been described as an institution that changed the experience of art for all time. During Napoleon's tenure he'd walk inside the museum without even stopping to take a closer inspection at any of the artwork, he appeared simply unaffected. National gallery of London ; you'll find all the world's master pieces here from Rembrandt, Van Gore, Monet, Michelangelo and Cezanne just to name a few. If you ever find yourself in London do visit the gallery and marvel at all the great paintings on display including but not limited to Claude Lorrain's The Enchanted Castle.

Something learnt from a Home Economics class.

                                                           A yearning for more A diagram I was taught back in high school has stayed with me ever since. It is Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. According to this hierarchy a person must satisfy their most basic needs which are at the bottom of the hierarchy before they can attain their most highest needs which are at the very top of the hierarchy. Moving through the motions of life. I get frustrated at times when I realise that I am still stuck in trying to fulfil my most basic needs. Which are food, shelter and clothing as well as safety. By this stage I should be far from that. So how do I focus on attaining higher needs when bottom basic needs are still dragging me down? Creative village

                        ‘4ROOM CREATIVE VILLAGE’     On a Sunday evening whilst returning from buying drinks I bumped into an old high school acquaintance who goes by the name Happy. He suggested we go to this other event in the nearby neighbourhood. Of which I acquiesced. Arriving at the venue we sat ourselves by the table arrangements laid out on the street. In front of us a stage was set with live musical performances on display. My initial thinking was we are just going to kill time here. All this changed when I had settled down. I found the setup really inviting, cordial and organic. It was something that was meant to be there.
